Deriaz?
The profile here makes me think of one of the Deriaz brothers,
When I enlarged it, I noticed he appears to be circumcised. But even an American in that era would not have been cut. Could he be Jewish? Or is his peter skinned back?
You raise an interesting possibility, but there were lots of observers around the gyms and studios, and there has never been any mention of such in reference to Prof. Desbonnet. Having said that, I would be surprised if there wasn't some low level hanky panky going on among his students and gym patrons.
Assuredly, and agreed. In modern times, a nude session would be private. I'm not sure about the 1890's- 1910's, but surely, they had a private room / studio where the patrons weren't allowed? (imponderable, i guess!)
I'm thinking, that as at this time, nude modelling by physical culturalists was very popular. To be "displayed" totally nude, being a logical step in the movement. So, yes, probably a bit of horse play, and perhaps rivalry between models. But, this, the aesthetic of the male form, is a serious artistic and scientific pursuit. Oh to have been there...
The post is a bit "dramatic," but it works. He's handsome and has a great build, imho.

ReplyDeleteI think the pose works quite well. A very handsome fellow.
ReplyDeleteHe's truly beautiful, and maybe semi-tumescent? 🥰🔥
ReplyDeleteI can't believe that photographer and model didn't canoodle......I mean, both very handsome, and fit.......presuming that they were so inclined.

DeleteProfessor Desbonnet's work and the movement that grew around it were the pinnacle of the physical culture of that era.
