Jay and Jed Johnson

These two are twins Jay and Jed Johnson.  In 1968 they got on a train from California to Montreal, but were thrown off in Buffalo because the conductor thought they were draft dodgers fleeing to Canada.  They went to New York instead where they became messengers for Western Union.  Jed dropped off a telegram at Andy Warhol's studio, and was hired as a janitor on the spot.  Before long, the two were part of Warhol's entourage, many of whom were photographed by Scavullo.

  1. Something that is rarely posted is that Jed Johnson headed the highly successful Jed Johnson & Associates Design Studio and died in the TWA crash Flight 800 in 1996. His brother Jay took over the firm.

  2. Were their ticket fees refunded, lol? Was it necessary during the Draft for Draft-age men to prove they hadn't been drafted when traveling out of the country? How would they even do that

    1. It was probably illegal, but I guess it went unchallenged.
