I'm pretty sure this is a still from the movie "North Dallas Forty" that appeared in Playgirl Magazine. I think there was at least one more photo that went with it.
Yes, that fits. Playgirl did several sports themed photo spreads in the 70's. My favorite was an amateur San Diego rugby team who seems to take great joy in being photographed nude.
I don't recognize this one from Playgirl, nor does the font look like something they ever used. I definitely remember the rugby team pics you mention, and another rugby team later. But if this really is from "North Dallas Forty", it could have appeared in several places? Now I am curious...!
