Roy Blakey Day, Part 1 - 1970's Nudes

Roy Blakey was born in 1931 in Enid, Oklahoma, and when he saw a Sonja Henie movie at age 10, he set his mind on becoming a professional ice skater.  He managed that after first being drafted into the U.S. Army, and he was a headline performer in the world tours of Holiday on Ice from about 1954 to 1967.  Retiring from the rinks, Blakey turned his hobby of photography into a second profession.  His 1970's male nudes and semi-nudes are among the best, and his work has been chronicled by Reed Massengill.  Blakey's 1972 book entitled He is widely considered pivotal in the transition from strictly beefcake male nudes to true art.  So today is Roy Blakey day.
