I've always like this locker room with several guys in jocks. One is peering into the pouch
of his strap, and another is giving the photographer a dirty look. Meanwhile, Mr. Socks
is totally nonchalant while the guy at far left is giving us a vapid stare.
I think he's just unrolling the waistband of the strap. I'd bet he's familiar with what's inside. I don't blame Mr. Glare, though. It's a bit of an invasion of one's privacy to be photographed in a men's locker room, even if your penis isn't showing. Maybe they gave no warning.
ReplyDeleteAnother quite challenging photograph. What a day! The long socks and shoes would indicate baseball as what seems to be the shirts of the team strip hanging to the back. What, then, is mysterious is that Mr Jockstrap seems to be wearing a swimmer/jogger strap, when baseball players in those days wore a cup (box) in an external pouch on a much sturdier jockstrap. Your guess is as good as mine.
ReplyDeleteI think this one is baseball, too, and would add that not all baseball players would have worn cups at the time and level of play indicated by the locker room.
DeleteI always love when the pubes spill out of the pouch!
ReplyDeleteThat reminds me. We're overdue for a series on that very subject.
DeleteThe photo was taken in 1938 by LIFE photographer Carl Mydans. It's part of a set in the LIFE archive called "Washington Red Skins [sic] at Virginia Training Camp." So these are players for the Washington Redskins football team.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Larry. They don't look old or big enough to be modern pro football players.
DeleteThe Empty Arms Motel, "Our rooms are full but we have a vacant stare" and yeah would love to see "pubes spilling out of the pouch" pix
