I have 3 photos filed with Willard Studios - first one is unnamed model - second is Peter Glenn c.1961 and third is John Herman - I do recognize Gregg palmer as being in a 1960s physique mag ' maybe someone out there has more info - when I have some time I'll look through some of those old mags and see if theres a willard advertisement
A quick search of some of the most likely mag sources - Fizeek #14 sept 1961 "Cliff" in photo by Willard - Fizeek #49 (no date given) lists Willard in their directory of studios and photographers. - Trim #60 (undated but likely late 60s) has an advertisement for Willard selling 5x7 prints 8 for 5.00 at address Box 352, Grand Central Station, New York 17 N.Y. in the issue there is a full page photo of the model Bob Ray in a police hat, boots, truncheon and posing strap - another page shows Guy Avery in an 1890 cavalry uniform and refers to the photographer as Avery Willard and references a 1966 Guild Press publication "Men in Uniform" - so willard was active for at least ten years - and I'm thinking I was wrong about it being British - also interesting was the 40 photogs and studios listed in the directory
Gregg Palmer appears full page and full nude frontal on p 8 of "Unique #1" magazine pub by DSI 1967. Same haircut and same neck chain so likely the same photo session by Willard
He looks p.o.ed, but his hairy chest is nice.
ReplyDeleteMaybe he was going for a "tough guy" look.
DeleteTo the best of my memory, Willard was a 1960s British photo studio
ReplyDeleteThanks! I had no idea.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the additional info! I did some research and found that these are likely by Avery Willard, and he was indeed American.

ReplyDeleteDSI was very prolific and sometimes used other artists' photos in their publications.
