International
This advertising page from a magazine features one British and one Canadian ad.
The top one is by well known English photographer Pete Dobing under his Studio Three brand.
I need to research Stark Enterprise of Canada/ Could be interesting.
Actually, the UK and Canada had pretty tight restrictions at that time, but I believe they loosened up at roughly the same time as the USA, give or take a few years.
I hadn't come across Pete Dobing or Studio Three before and Darlington seemed an unlikely place for physique photography in that era. However, while an internet search only came up with one contact sheet of an unnamed model, I did find out that Mr. Dobing was also a keen amateur filmmaker in the late '40s and early '50s often featuring his extended family. There's a charming short silent film from 1949 of his family's Bonfire Night (5th November) which can be viewed online on the Yorkshire Film Archive website. He took up filmmaking again in the '70s and was a member of Darlington Cine Club along with his partner, George Thaker. Dobing died in January 2018, aged 90. I thought this might be of interest.
We're the Canadians and Brits in that era more tolerant of full frontal? You can't tell from these shots.

How very interesting! Thanks for researching that, Peter.
DeleteDo you have much work by Pete Dobing / Studio , Jerry? Would a series be possible from what you have?

No frontals, but yes I have about a dozen more, several of which were shared by Bryan.
