John, 1942
Jared French is generally given credit for this 1942 photo of John Butler.
I found them in an obscure digital collection, but be forewarned there are hundreds of photos, and the large majority of them are not very interesting.
This is a superb photo. Big Dude is right about the light/shadow contrast. The model is impressive too.
Jerry - Regarding the model, in August last year you posted a 1942 photo by French of John Wood who looks very similar to the above John Butler. Are they one and the same? You also mentioned that this was one of about a dozen photos of John by French and that these could possibly form part of forthcoming series. That would be great if possible. The two photos I've seen are top quality. John could also fit into a lanky or low hangers series.
The light/shadow contrast is phenomenal. I don't suppose the Smithsonian exhibits these publicly, so how do you get to see them?

They do look similar, but I'm not sure if it's the same model or not. I'll try to get more on later.
