Agree on both counts. Some clearly "enhanced". But a fairly squat, well-built man could and can have such a musculature. As they don't fit the idealised physique, they tend to be used less for modelling. Even today, some men of this build assume that they would be unsuitable as a model.
When I see these, I can't help wondering if the models were that well built or if, maybe, the artist "idealized" them after studying anatomy.
ReplyDeleteProbably a combination of the two, although there is photographic evidence that the artists could be quite literal at times.

DeleteYou'd think that with all the "body type inclusiveness" that we see among women models, the male field would jump on the bandwagon.
