It's been a while since we had a miners' set on the blog, so let's do it today. I'm starting and ending the set with two repeat posts from my very first miners' set on this platform from 2018. Above we have a charming clip from a 1980s documentary about British miners.
I never liked public showers and avoided them as much as I could. I didn't even like school sprts with shirts against skins. Something about my being gay? I don't know.
ReplyDeleteWe started gang showers in the sixth grade, and it was just a mundane daily element of school for nearly all of us. There were, however, a few boys who obviously felt anxious for no obvious reason. I didn't like all the rites of passage in that rural culture, but I was fine with that one.

DeleteAs a point of correction, the programme was part of a two part documentary on the last week's of Kellingley Colliery in the UK. It was made in 2015 and with its closure, marked the end of deep pit coal mining in the country. The shower scene was broadcast un blurred, and what is more, there were no warnings on nudity beforehand. The films were broadcast before 9pm, which for UK broadcaster is the "watershed" before which no nudity, bad language, or other adult content is shown.
