In the deluge of male nude publications following the late 1960s liberalization of U.S. obscenity laws, several foreign entries hit the American scene. One of them was Boys of Italy from the early 70s,
and it was successful enough to get a second edition, cover shown above. It was apparently
produced by someone named Jurgen, which sounds German. I have enough photos
from the two magazines to do a complete series if anyone is interested.
Yes please!
ReplyDeleteDitto!
ReplyDelete+ La rivoluzione sessuale arriva in Italia.
ReplyDeleteNel 1970 l'Italia aveva fatto molta strada dal 1930 quando gli omosessuali furono ufficialmente perseguitati e imprigionati alle Isole Termiti dell'Adriatico.
I recall reading somewhere (or was it in a movie?) that at least some of the men on that island found the experience liberating despite the harsh conditions. After all, when being exiled as gay, one no longer has to hide it.
DeleteMy family's from Italy, & I've never heard of the Termiti Islands......will research.
DeleteAh, Tremiti Islands, Provincia di Foggia!
DeleteI do remember this, and more would be most welcome!
ReplyDeleteI'll see what I can throw together.
DeletePlease do! I would love to see photos from the first edition. It was my favorite until it disappeared. Years later I found out one of my roommates stole it. I never forgave him!
ReplyDeleteYikes, I hate thieves!
