Pier Paolo Pasolini (1922-1975) was a gay Italian poet, film director, writer, actor, and playwright.
To call him radical would be a huge understatement, and his life was too interesting
and complicated for me to summarize here. I suggest his Wikipedia entry: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pier_Paolo_Pasolini
The 1975 promotional poster above is from Salo', or the 120 Days of Sodom, Pasolini's final
and most jarringly sadomasochistic movie. The image below may be from the same film,
but Google Images search came up only with it being his.
One more great post. Thanks, Jerry!

DeleteThis last one looks like it may be from The Decameron
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteActually, I believe it is from The Canterbury Tales--one of the gods (?) in the king's secret garden.
Delete+ il schietto Pasolini fu distrutto e messo a tacere dalle ignoranti forze reazionarie d’Italia e d’Europa.
ReplyDeleteWith the help of the Mafia, or so one biography says.
DeleteTrying to explain Pasolini to anyone is never easy! I have seen a few of his films ,most notably Mamma Roma and read many essays on him. It is much easier for those to read for themselves, the complexity of the man is staggering. Thanks for this Jerry. I think I will watch Summertime tonight with Katherine Hepburn and Rossano Brazzi.
