Back Cover
And the series ends, as usual, with the back cover. I hope you've enjoyed the Summer 1957
edition of The Male Figure as much as I have enjoyed presenting it.
And once again, my deepest gratitude goes to Tim T. for sharing this and so much more.
Tim and Bill D. gifted me with many more magazines I plan to post. Stay tuned.

Skinny Dippers Day
Skinny dippers is our subject of the day, and we start with this group of men,
some of whom are cleaning up and some of whom are having a splash.
Nice location
This reminds me of a place my friends, cousins, and I would go skinny dipping
when we were teenagers. We had to drive some distance, but it was worth it.
Tentative
These men seen to be tentative about going further out in the water, plus there' s
one guy in a onesie and another whose tan lines indicate he usually wore one.

Lon and his Columns
Nearly all the great physique photographers used columns as props in their work, but none
more so than Lon Hanagan, aka Lon of New York. Today we'll look at yet more examples
of this motif, and we start with Raul Pacheco, one of Lon's most prolific models.
Arman Ozon
Perched on a column with a sword in hand, Arman Ozon makes quite an impressive image.
He won the title of Mr. New York City of 1946 and appears below on the cover of Your Physique
in a swimsuit he had to have bought from Glenn Bishop and Richard Alan.
Marvin Eder
Marvin Eder strikes a great pose with one arm behind his back and the other hand in a dramatic position. Shades of Texas wrestling legend Fritz von Erich and his "iron claw" shtick.
Luis Santiago
A serious looking Luis Santiago posed for Lon on a toppled and broken column
for this photo which is very similar to the last picture in today's series. A close look,
however, showed me that the models' left arms are not posed the same.
And yes, color work by Lon is pretty rare. I hope it isn't faked.
Jerry Rocco
Jerry Rocco is one of my all-time favorite Lon models, and I somehow have
managed not to post this photo of him until now. Omission corrected.
Gus Mayor
This Lon of New York photo of Gus Mayor.appeared in a 1955 magazine (sorry, I don't know
which one) that actually made some salient comments about posing style and musculature.
George Schumaker
For those of you who like them a bit on the plump side, we have
George Schumaker leaning against one of Lon's columns.
Sam Calhoun
Here we get to enjoy a classic 1950s hairstyle, some thatch poking out of the posing strap,
and a good view of Lon's column said to have been stained at the top from all the models
rubbing oil on it. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention the very nice model, Sam Calhoun.

Hairy Pilot Recruits
I had a request from Ron G. in Nashville for some more of the World War II body typing photo studies. This time the focus will be on pilot cadets from the St. Mary's College (California) Pre-flight School for naval aviators. We start with sturdily built fellow who might have been a farmer.
September 12, 1944
Cadet Beckmann's photos are dated later than any of the other hairy men in my St. Mary's Flight School collection. That leaves me wondering if older men were inducted into the program early in the war, with later recruits entering as they reached draft age.
Undated
Although I found this set on the same military history website as today's other posts,
it is in a different configuration and missing the name and date. I'm including it anyway
because it was one of only a relatively few hairy men in the entire collection.
October 6, 1942
I'm sure there's no way to know, but did every recruit have his own jockstrap,
or did the Navy provide them for the photos to be made?
August 24, 1942
Our last St. Mary's post isn't the greatest scan, but for those of you who like posing
(or jock in this case) strap overflow, there's some there if you look closely.

A dozen very fine Black men
Our series today features an even dozen Black men by a dozen different photographers.
All the models are named and presented in alphabetical order by photographer. We start
with an interesting picture of Tom King taken by Bob Mizer of AMG on his roof.
I really like the shadow, even if it isn't the sort that sends Big Dude swooning.
Harpo
This is Harpo, the only model in today's series for whom I do not have a first and last name. Denny Denfield's work has been archived by the Bob Mizer Foundation, and even they couldn't find out any more about this great model. His abdomen has been described as perfection.
