Dave Martin (1923-2014) was born in Haverford, Pennsylvania, and moved to the West Coast after World War II. He taught himself photography and began doing male nudes in the late 1940's. Dave had his own studio from 1952 to 1974 on Sacramento Street in San Francisco, and his favorite models were college athletes and military men. Like many of his peers, he ran into
trouble with the law and was jailed for six months in 1956 on obscenity charges.
So today is Dave Martin Day here on the blog for both our G and R series.
Never forget those who paid the price for our freedom to enjoy these images.
Lol- Reminds of an amateur photographer I used to pose nude for in the 70's.
ReplyDeleteHe had the same horn-rimmed glasses and businessman look and manners! I was nervous as hell at 19, but he soon had me calm and created some beautiful images of me. He became a good, protective friend and counselor. I'd like to think Mr Martin was the same....:)
