Al Urban (1917-1992) was once described by Bob Mizer of AMG as having "made his living photographing the smallest dicks in the world." Well, we aren't going to be focusing on those today, but rather take a broad look at the remarkable career of one of the most meticulous and technically proficient of the golden age physique photographers. Active from 1937 to 1963, Urban's early life and personal life remain something of a mystery, but his professional life and struggles with the repressive laws of his times are well documented. I will post some biographical details among the captions of the photos. We starting with Joe Sawacki in a typical Urban black background with no props to distract us from the model's body. Joe is the only known model in this first group of five, and any help with IDs would be appreciated.
