19th Century Bearded Art Study Models

Later today, we'll see some 19th C. paintings and drawings with bearded subjects, but first let's take a look at some men who posed for photographic studies during the same era.
I find this model's stance and expression to be quite engaging.  Photographer is unknown.

  1. Excellent twisted pose. I would say around a 20 minute one. These are always so inspiring.

  2. Didn't a lot of sculptors also take photos of models so they could continue work?

    1. Some would photograph the model to record positions. But in general most sculpting would be done from life, using the photographs to confirm correct model positions using position marks on the dias and maybe supports. The same method is still used today.
