Gym owner and early fitness guru Dan Lurie posed for this Earle Forbes photo and was known to joke about how he eventually knew the pictures were marketed to gays and didn't care.
It varied. Some never did it, and some only did it part of the time. I don't know whether it was the photographer or the model who got to decide. And of course, by mid-20th Century in America many were circumcised.

DeleteLurie mentioned being Jewish in his autobiography so I'm sure he was circumcised.
