The PaJama Group, or more formally the PaJaMa Collective, was a very unusual and
complicated group of artists composed of Paul Cadmus, Jared French, and Margaret Hoening.
I say complicated because Jared and Margaret were married, and Paul and Jared were lovers . . .
all at the same time.  They managed to keep this enterprise going from about 1938-1950.
They even lived in a house together much of that span.  (In case you haven't already guessed, the group name is an acronym made from the first two letters in each member's name.)  All three were primarily painters, but they also made some striking photographs, some of which we will look at today.  This is Christopher Isherwood and Bill Caskey at Provincetown.

  1. I hope you can get these images back up. I'd never heard about them and now I'm very curious to see some of the work.

    1. Yeah, and it looks like there is a black barrel propped up on at an angle on the roof. Did they have an early day solar water heater for their shower?

  3. Looks like a fun relaxed weekend . Now it seems strange that men were not shy about being nude together when women weren't around but photos of it could not be published...I remember n the 50s, we had to change and shower before and after gym, in one big open shower room, and guys horsed around popping butts with towels, joking and having a good time. If you were shy, you got over it quick....

    1. Unfortunately, this is becoming more and more rare.
