Early 20th Century Swim

Today we will look at some swimmers mostly from the early 20th Century.  We start with a group that's hard to date, and seemingly lacking in water deep enough to actually swim in.

  1. I wonder if it might date from the CCC era. My father was in the CCC, and said they often had to skinny dip to bathe, in shallow streams. The kid on the right end looks like he might be on the lower end of the age scale of ages accepted in the CCC. Just a thought.

    1. For some reason, I thought they looked European, but you could be right. It's just the sort of thing CCC guys would do.

  2. But most men from that era thought nothing of bathing in all-male company. Or stripping for a medical exam. Or sleeping nude. You were seen as weird if you were modest. My great-grandfather, a CCC alum, actually told me boys can "get away with it".

    1. I never wore trunks in all male company. At the YMCA, and in high school and college swim class, trunks were never worn. During men's swim hours at college, we went bareass. Once a cop caught a bunch of us skinny dipping in the reservoir. He wasn't concerned about our being naked. He was upset brcause we were contaminating the town's water. I saw him about a week later at the YMCA. We swam naked together. Timrs have not changed for the better, have they, brother?

    2. True. I was born in 83, but I had a pond in my family's property. Boys were always there to swim. Sans trunks.

  3. J'adore cette série de photo, mais celle-ci est ma préférée. Je suis amateur de photos prisent sur le vif et sans beaucoup de préparation :-)

I love this series of photos, but this one is my favorite. I am a lover of photos taken on the spot and without much preparation :-)

    1. I agree, Albert. It's getting harder to find "new" photos of this sort that I haven't seen or posted, so I may have to start running "best of" series.

    1. I found some WWII POW camp photos the other day where the prisoners had built their own swimming pool, and the Germans were letting them enjoy it . . . nude of course. I need to post them soon.
