I think this group was part of an Earle Forbes photo shoot, and numbers two and three
from the left are the Ritter Brothers.  But I could be wrong.  I've been wrong before.
Edited to add:  And I was wrong.  Friend Bryan B. sent a note identifying these as German naturists.

  1. I like the casual atmosphere of this pic. Back then, men were far less self-conscious about being naked in a group.

    1. That's an understatement. But, I think we may be making some progress on that front.

    2. So do I. We just happen to be naked...

  2. I'm thinking that this is a staged photo shoot, mostly because they aren't wearing any kind of athletic shoes. If this was a real game, there wouldn't be bare feet.

  3. 13 est un chiffre porte bonheur...Oui, si je compte bien et que ces 5 hommes sont normalement constitués, c'est bien le nombre de balles que montre cette photo!! LOL

13 is a lucky number ... Yes, if I count correctly and these 5 men are normally made up, it is the number of balls shown in this photo !! LOL

  5. I have this identified as Earl Forbes, Fire Island 1939

  6. Aren't those medicine balls? Which are lifted and thrown so no need for any footwear? I was hoping it is the Fire island shoot as there are other images from this. In any case they are truly stunning men.

    1. Yes, those are medicine balls, and there seems to be a difference of opinion about Fire Island.

  7. Can't help thinking this sort of thing - beautiful in self - fed the concept of the nazis 'strength through joy movement' though they wouldn't have wanted to acknowledge it.
