Brennus the Gaul?
Al Urban, especially in his early years of photography, liked to picture bodybuilders in Classical settings. I think this is his take on the story of Brennus the Gaul with Asnis as Brennus.
This is reminiscent of one of the Roman statues in your post the other day. The light/dark contrast is beautiful, and his penis and scrotum are naturally placed, as were the Roman's. And oh, those pecs and abs...
Asnis en Gaulois ! J'adour cette image. Si heroique, meme en tant que Brennus dechu. Cela aruait fait une formidable affiche de moral pour la France, au debut l'Occupation, pour se lever et se battre.

ReplyDeleteI agree, and I just detected what might be a bit of a grin on Mr. Asnis' face. Perhaps he knew this was going to be a great shot.

Gentilhomme a Paris
Much more inspiring than those other Gauls, Asterix and Obelix. Although those two were cute, Brennus makes a better example.
