1943

Our last soldier in the shower was photographed by Jack Wilkes in 1943.
The soldier standing by seems to be enjoying the view.

  1. Do you think the photographers told the men to turn their backs? Or did the men just do it? Back then, being naked with other males was no big deal, but you never knew who might see the puctures, I guess. Big Dude

    2. Being nude around other men was very normal and expected, but being photographed frontally that way likely crossed a line for many. Having said that, I have quite a few photos where guys are actually going out of their way to show off the jewels. So it ran both ways. I know that the LIFE photographers told athletes that their frontal nudity would not be published, and it wasn't . . . until the LIFE Archive went online. I don't know what these soldiers were told, if anything.

  2. I understand this soldier who looks at this magnificent ass, perhaps one of my ancestors... ;-)

  3. I always enjoy these outdoor shower photos from back then. There's usually an abundance of butts on display. 😘
