19th Century Photographs
Time for some more 19th Century material, starting with one by Louis Igout.
I find it wonderful that there were photographers who appreciated naked males back then. I actually like their works better than our newer photographers, but, of course, I like almost all photographs of naked males!
I hold the same views. These images are still so inspiring. The new art of photography applied to the tradition of the academic male nude. The model is nude for a particular reason. Certainly no exhibitionism, or the wish to shock. I can tell you, the professional model has no feeling of embarrassment. One is simply nude for art. Indeed, as one models, the sense of being nude fades.
Aw, thank you, Jerry. There is definitely a particular mindset the model has to adopt, and total respect of this professionalism is required from the artists.
....& my favorite Igout model! He could just stand there, and i'd be thrilled.
ReplyDeleteIgout must have liked him, too, as he appears many times in the portfolio.

For me, the difference between then and now is art/cullture vs. crass commercialism/exhibitionism.

DeleteDavid, your life modeling is of that fine artistic tradition, and I respect it very much.
