Lighting and good photography

A long time ago, I was trained to teach a photography class as part of an internship for my  master's degree in Social Work.  My instructor kept emphasizing that photography was all about lighting, and was he ever right.  Today I am featuring some examples of good lighting ranging from the dramatic to the subtle.  We start with this Douglas of Detroit photo of Bill Cooper which almost jarringly confronts the viewer with the lean musculature of the model.

  1. Remarkable use of light and dark and the interplay. Just beautiful.
