1900 Era Wrestlers, Give or Take a Decade or Two
A few weeks ago I featured some of Eadweard Muybridges 1884 motion studies of wrestlers.
Today, I'm shifting to some late 19th and early 20th Century studio stills on the same subject.
Our first example is from Louis Igout, dated late 1870's.
Igout produced a number of high quality photos, but the quality of the scans available on line is uneven. The best I found were in the collection of a Hungarian university.
Wonderfully sharp for the 1870's As is usual, most wrestling images can also be read as an embrace.
