George, 1941
In my last PaJaMa series, I posted a photo of George Platt Lynes and an oyster shell from the front.
The rear view may be even more impressive from both a technical and artistic perperspective.
Dig that footgear! Sox? Tennis shoes? The swathe of light across his body is very nice. He also seems to be tanned from the waist up, or...is that the lighting?
It may have been the light because I have other photos from about the same time that show him tanned all over. Or this could have been early in the season. It wasn't unusual for men to be tanned from the waist up, as long pants were routine even in summer.
While there was much to like about the frontal photo, I agree that this rear view is the more impressive from both a technical and artistic perspective. Lynes has a great figure and, as we discussed before, was a really good looking guy. Now I just need to get my hands in a copy of that biography!

I'm going to know Lynes very well when I finish that book. The detail is amazing to the point of being a little intimidating.
