This Danish lithograph looks modern, but it was dated by a reputable website at 1907.
Akin to the Soviet - and Fascist - Socialist Realism, this minimalist Scandinavian school does indeed look ultra-contemporary whilst over a century old. Perhaps this is indicative of the unsung and virtually invisible influence of Scandinavian style and art over the decades of the 20th century. And whereas Soviet Realism has been rightly relegated to the dustbin of history, Scandinavian art goes from strength to strength.
