These guys are the remarkable 1912 USA Olympic shot putters. They swept all three medals with Pat McDonald (left) taking Gold, Lawrence Whitney (center) taking Bronze, and Ralph Rose (right) getting the Silver. Mr. Whitney stunned the world by putting farther than the European champions.
I wonder if you would encounter even field sports athletes with quite those shapes these days. They'd be put in the capable hands of a prim little dietician with little round glasses and braids who would prescribe a pineapple and nasturtium seed salad when what they really want is a leg of raw rhinoceros.
