And just to make things international, I'm closing this gay history set with a 1955 photo made near Bournemouth, England. This has been authenticated as a gathering of gay men. Having visited Bournemouth twice, I can tell you that it's one of the nicer British seaside towns.
I fear the USA is headed back to the Dark Ages...if that rat bastard 45 wins, his "Christian" swallowers will make it a living hell, not only for us, but for anyone who isn't just like them. Fuck 45 and the entire Nazipublican Party
ReplyDeleteYou live in a state where you could make a difference. Make the people you know aware of just what's on the line. Little ripples can turn into big waves.
DeleteI think if there's anything 2016~2020 has taught us, it's to never swallow what a computer trained on vague stereotypes about the Midwest from 80s movies and Southern romanticism says.
DeleteThe UK has its own problems with the Tories. Naturally right now they're primarily targeting trans people.
DeleteThe computer thing requres people stupid enough to follow its lead. Unfortunately, we have a lot of those.
DeleteIf I look closely the two men on the right are completely naked...
ReplyDeleteYou're right! How did I not notice that?
DeleteAnd the third one on the right is wearing a low cut bikini...
DeleteSo he is.
DeleteAnd back in those days I had no idea that "all my people" were out there having fun!
ReplyDeleteReally, and not always in some basement bar.
DeleteWhat an incredible set, I viewed each photo with a sense of reverence. I couldn't help not getting emotional when I think of what these fine men endured in paving the way for us. Heroes all. Thanks Jerry, this is our Lest We Forget.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the kind words, Pat. It's hard not to get emotional when we think about these men, their lives, and what they gave us.
DeleteI went to Bournemouth with my parents for a week's holiday around 1960-ish and I don't remember a beach there that looked like this - and I don't mean with a couple of naked men ! Maybe it was somewhere more secluded nearby.
ReplyDeleteHaving been to Bournemouth twice, I have to agree with you. This does not look at all like the beaches in town, so I'm guessing that this was an outlying area as you suggest.
DeleteMutige englische Jungs damals.
ReplyDeleteEngland hatte trotz Diskriminierung eine lebendige Schwulenszene.
In London gab es den Golden Lion Pub, in dem man britische Matrosen und Soldaten abholen kontte, wilde Zeiten !
