Frenchman Paul Richer (1849-1933) was a multi-talented man who excelled in anatomy, sculpture, drawing, physiology, medal casting, and photography. I recently came across a comprehensive archive of his work, and to use a tired expression, it blew me away. I've posted about a dozen of his various pieces in the past, but today starts a new chapter. We'll start with an eclectic mix of his work, but future series may focus on specific genres of it, depending on viewer response. The image above shows Mr. Richer at work with a live model in his sculpture studio.
His work on this sculpture is amazing.
ReplyDeleteI agree, and only regret that is overshadowed by his photography to the point that it rarely gets recognized outside of hardcore art circles/
DeleteReally!? I keep coming back to look at it, the attention to detail especially the creases in the trousers and boots is extraordinary work.
DeleteMr. Richer's scultures were recognized as excellent during his lifetime, and there were several well received shows and follow on commissions
