Henri Rupp (1937-1918) was the studio assistant for French artist Gustave Moreau (1826-1898), an important figure in French art history and the Symbolist movement. Moreau was an established and successful artitst when Rupp made a series of photographic studies for him to work from. That's somewhat surprising since the use of photos as models was typically associated with students and poor artists. The photos I am posting are said to be all the male nudes that Rupp ever did. (He did even fewer female nudes, fwiw.) I'm left wanting more, because I think Mr. Rupp had a lot of potential as a photographer of the male form.
I see what you mean. A fascinating series with great potential.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed the concept.
DeleteThe series of photos is very old and the poses of the models very lascivious, but we must not forget that the exposure time was very long at that time. On the other hand, this photo shows us a really very handsome man!
ReplyDeleteYes, Mr. Rupp was quite good looking.
