Jankowski
Ursus "Bear" Piotr Jankowski was an early 20th C. Polish wrestler who won
championships in his native land, Russia, Turkestan, and the Caucasus.
Whoever took the photo at right spelled his name wrong.
Turkestan has the ancient wrestling tradition of goresh and the more exotic style of enish, wrestling on horseback ! Perhaps Jankowski gave this a try while in Turkestan. Tiflis/Tbilisi the capital of Georgia played host to serious wrestling competitions, and the Caucasus resorts of Kislodovsk, Mineralnye Vody, Pyatigorsk and Yessentuki played hosts to wrestling and strongman exhibitions for public entertainment and spa vacations for the wrestlers themselves….:)
