I've spent over a year, off and on, looking for some crisp versions of the 1970s male nudes of George Hester, 1923-2022. So far, all I've found are grainy images, some of which look like quickie cell phone shots. Perhaps that was his style, but I can't imagine there being no repository of his work other than book resellers on eBay and other online venues. So today is George Hester day, and I'm posting the best of what I could find. If any of you own any of his books, please comment.
All his images are in soft focus in his books, more than likely to differentiate himself from other photographers….:)
ReplyDeleteWell, that might be the only thing that differentiates him. Everything else such as the models, the poses, and even the hair styles are pretty much cloned.
DeleteA friend has one of his books Man, and I was rather disappointed at his style of soft focus. Many prefer pin point sharp images especially if you're going to pay the amount eBay or Amazon is asking for. He does interesting work, but I've seen it before.
ReplyDeleteRight, we've all seen it before, only better.

Yup, 'The Classic Nude,' which I had been seeking since '79, when I saw it in our local bookstore, and nervously perused it at age 15. Thanks to VMM, and the familiarity of a photo i saw posted here, I was able to FINALLY buy it after a 45-year wait! 🥰
ReplyDeleteGood for you!
