    1. I spent the holidays in London once and got acquainted with the cracker concept. (Where I come from, that means a redneck, btw.) When the host told me we were doing crackers, I thought he meant something to put cheese on.

    2. Two nations separated by a common language. Although just to confuse matters we also put cheese on crackers!

    3. Indeed. For obvious reasons, I've always been fond of Carr's brand British crackers. We can even get them here in Hawaii!

  3. "Crackers" are a British holiday tradition that involves handing out some candy or other small treats in an elongated packet that pops (thanks to a very minimal amount of fireworks) when pulled apart or opened. I actually enjoyed it.

    1. Interesting to hear about our linguistic and cultural differences. I didn't know that 'cracker' could refer to a redneck and I've never heard it used with reference to an uncircumcised penis ... although thinking about it, it seems pretty obvious!

As Jerry says, crackers are a British tradition at Christmas, other holidays and parties. The 'pop' is the fun part. They usually consist of a party hat, corny joke and a gift. I'll be pulling some crackers tomorrow ... unfortunately not like the one in the photo!
