This one is not even seminude, but it shows Lynes' quirky side with George Tooker admiring
a picture that may or may not have been by either Jared French or Paul Cadmus who are
shown looking on in the mirror. Tooker modeled for Lynes, Cadmus, and French.
Cool!

Oddly enough, it is this photo that I prefer. The candor of the young man certainly discovering a fairly suggestive nude in the photo and the reflection of the two lustful (lewd) men in the mirror make me think that a lot of things must have happened afterwards. I imagine a whole scenario ... but you know Jerry that I have a lot of imagination and that's why I'm a writer !!
I think we all can understand where your imagination might take you. Yours is perhaps the most likely scenario, based on the way these guys are looking at the picture and each other.
DeleteThe painting could also have been by Tooker himself, who was a highly accomplished artist, with works in the collections of the Metropolitan, MOMA and Smithsonian's American Art museum.
ReplyDeleteThanks for letting us know that interesting fact! I'm reading a comprehensive bio of Lynes, and I'm sure Tooker will be mentioned at some point.
