Trainee 1937

This handsome fellow was a Civilian Conservation Corps blacksmith
trainee in 1937. Before you say he was preparing for a disappearing trade,
remember that men (and women) are still entering this profession today:

My enduring thanks to the genius of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow,
one of the greatest American poets ever.

  1. The man in the top photo is very handsome and well-built. There's good lighting there, too. The male in the lower photo is cool. But doing that type of work in the raw could prove dangerous, IMHO.

    1. Yes, sparks and fragments could be a real problem in the lower picture. I'm pretty sure that this was a one off photo op, as opposed to the way he typically works . . . assuming that he's a real smith.

    1. I had a crush as a teenager on the smith/farrier who shod our string of horses on the ranch where I grew up. He was a beautiful man, inside and out. I've been wanting to do this one for a long time.
