These two images are of textbooks with anatomical lessons for artists. The one above looks like early 20th Century, while the one below is from 1947's "Anatomy for Art Students." I have to wonder if the latter one was a sly way to get around the censorship laws of the time.
The lower shot definitely calls to mind the "posture" pictures from the various colleges in the 40s/50s.

DeleteI think you're probably right. There were any number of publications, some of them hilarious, with that in mind.

DeleteI remember seeing that book in the library in the 70s and Xeroxing many pages to use for reference ... I do draw a lot!!!
