Art Class Day
Our theme for Monday is art classes through the centuries. We start with a work from 1787
by Martin Ferdinand Quadral called "Life Class in the Vienna Academy."
Marvellous... "draw what you see".. as, you would expect, loving this posting. A rather well lit and warm studio. Interesting to see the use of stackable boxes to create support for the model and artists.
David, we see those boxes in a lot of academic art pieces, particularly in the 19th C., but this is one of the earliest documented dates that I've seen for them.
I see that we're past the age of the "classical cock," and the model has a man-sized one.
ReplyDeleteA good dose of realism was (and is) usually a key element of life drawing.
