Minor White, Part 1 - Male Nudes

Minor White (1908-1976) was an exceptional photographer and teacher of fine art photography who is best known for taking photos of nature and architecture to which he would give an abstract treatment.  (Search Google Images, and see what I mean.)  For our purposes, as usual, we will focus on the limited number of male nudes that he did.  This one is Minor and His Disciples from 1972.

  1. Thanks for sharing these. I have always liked Minor White's work. Of course, I may be a little bit biased--my photography studies at the university were under a professor who had been a student of Minor's, so we were exposed to a great deal of his teachings.

    1. Tom, did your professor go into the conflicted way Minor White dealt with his homosexuality and how that affected his art?

    2. Unfortunately, no he did not. I would have liked to know more about White the man, but the professor concentrated on other aspects. As a questioning young gay man, I picked up on some of Minor's conflict, but we did not pursue any of those details.
