Several of you have commented from time to time on how much you like it when the bush
spills out of a posing strap. When I started this Western Skies double feature, I quickly
noticed how many such photos there were in my WPG collection, so here we go with six
of them. Starting us off is Doug DeWitt just the right bit of tease to get things going.
I guess that's a sword he's holding, but it almost looks like he's going to cast with a fishing rod. Cool bush and a nice, tight strap...

DeleteAs I have mentioned before, Don Whitman quite clearly systematically gave his models much smaller posing straps than other photographers. I think he perhaps avoided prosecution or police attention because he specialized in models on the bona fide bodybuilder circuit and so his work did not blur the increasing divide between the bodybuilding world and that of emerging gay photography. Of course, sometimes less is more and this genre held a great attraction for many men at a time when it was still assumed that all men were heterosexual.
ReplyDeleteTrue. Mr. Whitman's legal strategy certainly worked, and when combined with his consummate skill, produced a large body of memorable photos.
