Japanese
This tattooed Japanese man was photographed about 1910
and was described as the personal servant of a Count.
This rather stern individual is wearing the traditional Japanese male underwear called a Fundoshi. We had three Japanese boys during my time at school and every now and again, you would see them wearing one, although they aren't so comfortable under trousers. I get the impression that you didn't mess with the Count when he was around.

ReplyDeleteI was hoping someone would mention the fundoshi, and of course it was you. There are Japanese Americans here in Hawaii who still use them on occasion.
DeleteTattooed? Yakuza?
ReplyDeleteI wondered about that, too. Would a Count have a gangster as a servant?
