Japanese

This tattooed Japanese man was photographed about 1910
and was described as the personal servant of a Count.

  1. This rather stern individual is wearing the traditional Japanese male underwear called a Fundoshi. We had three Japanese boys during my time at school and every now and again, you would see them wearing one, although they aren't so comfortable under trousers. I get the impression that you didn't mess with the Count when he was around.

    1. I was hoping someone would mention the fundoshi, and of course it was you. There are Japanese Americans here in Hawaii who still use them on occasion.

    1. I wondered about that, too. Would a Count have a gangster as a servant?
