Stadio dei Marmi

The fascists under Mussolini built a major athletic complex on the north side of Rome in the early 1930s.  It included a group of athetically themed sculptures that will be the subject of today's series.  They were placed around Stadio dei Marmi (Stadium of Marble) and are still in place today.
I don't know what sport our first photo represents, but I think it is quite good.

  1. Do we know anything about the sculptor(s) that were involved in this project? Mussolini is documented as being very anti-gay or homophobic if you prefer. He established a gay island prison community where many were exiled.

    2. Nine! Do you know any more about this project? Were live models used? I find this project fascinating. Can you recommend and reading resources?

  2. I really like it when fairly recent publicly displayed works of art show the genitals fairly realistically.
