It's 19th Century Day on the blog and we start with a man on a couch by Vincenzo Galdi.

  1. There's a lot to like about this photo, especially when you consider the age. Nice!

    1. Right. Galdi was pushing the envelope when it came to posing. Not all of his work is this interesting, but it's quite good.

  2. Odd, but for me, it works. I can almost hear Galdi's voice directing the model. Having drawn his right foot up.. "Perhaps if you get your right arm parallel to the left one?". As ever, the rug is there. His "goods" nicely nestling, with foreskin retracted for extra interest. And we get to see the tan from that summer on his face and legs. Delightful.

  3. So much to like about this one. Interesting pose for the period. And composition but it does work. Like the textures also. And the tan

    1. All true, plus he seems to have dropped his shirt on the floor at lower right which adds to the textural element.

    2. Noticed the shirt. It stands out and yes, adds to the photo.

  4. I think this is quite extraordinary, and it's the unconventional pose that sets in apart from others of the period. It looks very natural.
