19th Century Day
It's 19th Century Day on the blog and we start with a man on a couch by Vincenzo Galdi.
Odd, but for me, it works. I can almost hear Galdi's voice directing the model. Having drawn his right foot up.. "Perhaps if you get your right arm parallel to the left one?". As ever, the rug is there. His "goods" nicely nestling, with foreskin retracted for extra interest. And we get to see the tan from that summer on his face and legs. Delightful.
There's a lot to like about this photo, especially when you consider the age. Nice!
ReplyDeleteRight. Galdi was pushing the envelope when it came to posing. Not all of his work is this interesting, but it's quite good.
DeleteVery odd composition.
ReplyDeleteYes, but it works on some level.

ReplyDeleteNice description. Thanks!
DeleteLike your description.
DeleteSo much to like about this one. Interesting pose for the period. And composition but it does work. Like the textures also. And the tan
ReplyDeleteAll true, plus he seems to have dropped his shirt on the floor at lower right which adds to the textural element.
DeleteNoticed the shirt. It stands out and yes, adds to the photo.
DeleteI think this is quite extraordinary, and it's the unconventional pose that sets in apart from others of the period. It looks very natural.
ReplyDeleteEverything so well thought out.
DeleteDitto on that thought!
