The metallic backdrop for this photo of an unknown dancer might have been edgy at the time, it doesn't do much for me. Van Vechten was more imaginative in his portrait work.
The pose is likely a dance move that would be easier to grasp as a movie. That metallic looking backdrop would have been somewhat avant garde at the time, I think.
