Gerrit Dou (1613-1675) was a Dutch painter whose father had the foresight to send him to study with Rembrandt just as the Old Master's career was taking off. Dou specialized in small sized, but exquisitely detailed paintings that captured human expressions beautifully. This is The Doctor from 1653, and it is only 24 X 20 inches in size.
