Bob Poling and Marv McPike seem to be wrestling in the
sand in another leftover desert shot by Bruce.

  1. When I was doing my research for the history of sportswear, I discovered that there was a lot of historical made nude photography, from a time before societal attitudes to male nudity reflected an anxiety to homosexuality, which were at their most acute during the 1950s. Many of the photographs were undated, but I soon found that tan lines - as well as hairstyles - could solve the problem. Compare the tan lines of Bob Poling and Marv McPike above of the full "box-cut" trunks of the mid- to late-1950s with those of the "racer" or "Speedo" of
Drew Burton and Paul Strand a decade later and - hey presto! - the hair cuts match.
