Tension exercise
At first I couldn't tell if these two guys were wrestling or doing acrobatics.
The caption solved that, though, as "Spannuebung" translates as "tension exercise."
This photo is a bit dark and grainy. Age? Or due to the scanning? Anyway, the man holding his partner has nicely muscled legs and arms. His buddy looks good, too. The exercise spotlights his legs, too.
The guy bending looks like he's in the middle of a handspring. If he's going for flexibility, a yoga bridge would have been better. His base holding him up is doing all the work. But it's an impressive pose for the camera.

ReplyDeleteI should have mentioned that this one came from a magazine page, and that probably accounts for the quality. Still impressive, though.
DeleteYou said it!
DeleteAn amazing pose. Remarkably sharp for the era. Capturing a moment in time and creating live muscular art. Oh to be that strong.
ReplyDeleteThe skill of the models at least matches that of the really good photographer.
DeleteIt does...the beauty of the male form.

ReplyDeleteRiebicke was no doubt more interested in the visual impact than the health benefits.
DeleteFantastisches Foto, der Mann rechts hat ein beeindruckende Figur.
