We're heading to the early 20th Century yet again, and we start with the furst of two athletes from Professor Desbonnet's photographic work. I had to do a Google Images search to learn that much as my file was labeled "Unbekannt" or German for unknown. Still don't know his name.
Amen to all of that.
ReplyDeleteI don't like super pumped up bodybuilders, but I admit that this athlete has a magnificent body and his very hairy crotch is a marvel...
ReplyDeleteHe was quite developed by the standards of his time, but fortunately not as much as modern bodybuilders who appear grotesque to me.
DeleteBel homme avec un prépuce précieux dans une pose de défi.
ReplyDeleteLike other physique photographers Desbonnet has unknown models.
I think most of Desbonnet's models were sports figures or bodybuilders, but we only have names for a limited number of them.
DeleteIn France and Europe such images were considered ephemera to be discarded. We have a few archives of physique material, though much is closed to the public. Much is needed to preserve physique ephemera and allow for public access or it is lost.
DeleteIn the USA it has been private collectors who preserved the bulk of male nude photos. Some of the photographers themselves didn't bother to keep archives, while others such as Douglas of Detroit had their work destroyed by police.
