Leaning Men, Part 1

Our Friday theme for both series will be leaning men, starting with physique era photos of men leaning against rocks.  This is Joe Dallesandro, a model who worked for several major photographers.  I don't know which did this one, though.  Anybody know?  Bob Mizer had a fake photo set featuring rocks for a time, but I'm not sure this is that one.
Edited to add:  James IV says in the comments that this was indeed by Mizer in the Mohave Desert.

  1. Ma photo préférée. Ce modèle est superbe. J'aurais bien aimé le rencontrer derrière le rocher :-)

  2. Yeah, this one is from AMG. I believe it was photographed somewhere out in the Mohave Desert.

    1. Thanks! I shouldn't be surprised. Mizer did occasionally do some work outside that notorious house.

  3. Is that the same Joe Dallesandro of Andy Warhol fame? And what " notorious house" is being referred to? Sounds like a story there...

    1. Yes, the one and only. Bob Mizer (and for a long time, his mother) lived in a large house in LA that Mrs. Mizer bought when Bob was five years old. Over the years, Mizer took over some adjacent buildings, forming a compound that was used as a studio and residence for himself, and after his mother died, some of the models. Many of the photos we now enjoyed were made there. One building in the compound had a flat roof where sets were built for everything from fake nature scenes to movies.

  4. Thanks, Jerry, for that very illuminating response! I've heard you refer often to Bob Mizer's "roof", but always assumed that it was the roof of a commercial building.

    1. You're welcome! The original Mizer home is actually listed as the original location of Bob's work on the historical tours of the area, but I don't know about the other buildings he bought. It was one of those that had the flat roof.

  5. There is extensive information on the buildings including maps and photos in the book "Bob's World" . I recommend it for anyone interested in Mizer's life and work.

    1. Thanks for sharing that! Some of my knowledge comes from quotes and excerpts from that book which I have found on line.
