AA Gunner
This World War II photo of an antiaircraft gunner washing up next to his gun is a classic.
I'm not sure, but I think it may be from the LIFE Archive.
That seat is the same design as used on a late 1930s Ford tractor that was very popular among small farmers and ranchers. Rural women swapped patterns for making cushions for them.
True preparedness! He is ready to hop on that gun at a moments notice. About the seat, I have spent many hours driving a tractor with a seat like that.
The photo is from the book "My Buddy: World War II Laid Bare". It depicts a PT boat crewman lathering up in Ormoc Bay on Dec. 21, 1944 as part of the U.S. invasion of the Philippines.
That is definitely a professionally shot image. Look at that seat. My goodness, those men had to be tough.

ReplyDeleteMe, too. My grandfather had one of those Ford tractors.
